Have Your Say About Hobbies

I believe that hobbies are indeed good in helping to take you outside of yourself and into the world of beauty, culture and need. There are so many ways in which we can contribute in society and study and work are not the only avenues. How many of us were inspired by our parents or older siblings whilst growing up? I well remember at 11 years old picking up my sister's new guitar and having a go. I managed to persuade her to teach me the basic chords and because I loved singing I naturally picked it up as I accompanied myself whilst singing my heart out.

Without hobbies we are more likely to become passive and depressed. Our creativity needs to be inspired, aired and stretched and without any opportunities to do so, it can get buried under false beliefs that there is nothing that you can do.

Most of us are busy enough when in the throws of study, career or parenting, but when all this dies down, what is left? The children leave the nest and unless you have lots of cash, life can become restricted to your four walls. Well, I suppose you could be thankful that you have four walls and many other things. You can take an interest still in your family and friends, even if they no longer live nearby, but you could become a rather uninteresting person without the vibrancy and life that your own hobbies can provide. They give you something to talk about for sure, but more than that as well, for they allow you to shine as the unique person you are.

So this is why I believe that hobbies are good for you and would sacrifice if necessary to allow my children to participate in something rewarding that keeps them off the streets and away from their screens for a few hours.
