Celebrate Life

Every time we celebrate a birthday, we celebrate life. Sometimes we can get so caught up in the stress of organising a celebration, that we forget this. If they hadn't been given life, we wouldn't be celebrating it. For many unborn babies, they do not get that choice, but for those babies who are welcomed into the world we are glad that they live. We might think that we take life for granted, but I'm not so sure. After all, when it threatens to extinguish, we will fight for all we are worth in order to keep hold of it. And when that baby is born, even though we might have thought they were an accident, we can't help but feel overwhelmingly glad that they live and the attachment begins, not just to them, but to life itself. 
At Easter time we celebrate the new life that Christ won for us, by dying. That seems to be a foreign concept to us and yet we all know the feelings of admiration when some stranger dies in saving a drowning child. He gave another the chance to live. That is the real side of us as humans. The part of us that would deny and destroy life is the part that panics in fear of losing their own. They know that they are insecure in their own life and it feels as if it is slipping away. Maybe this is why Christ came to save us- from ourselves.
