Tea And Cake?

Anyone For Tea And Cake?
The english tradition of afternoon tea has largely disappeared, although remnants may still be found in quaint villages where Cream Teas are served. In years gone by, most families would serve afternoon tea consisting of a pot of black tea and a selection of home-made cakes, often with cucumber sandwiches. This would be a form of entertaining when upper class people would often drop in on friends in the afternoon. The lady of the house would ring the bell and order the tea and cake from the cook of the house.
In Germany, the tradition exists of Kaffee und Kuchen, although again, it is reserved for the visiting time with family and friends and therefore normally at weekends. The tea would be replaced with a strong brew of fresh coffee and the cake would normally be a generous portion  with a choice of one or two varieties, usually home-baked by the German Frau.

Keeping this tradition alive will encourage us to spend time with those we love and hopefully the skills that accompany it will not die. Even with the stress of life and our struggles to earn our living, let's never lose our ability to make happy memories, as investments in the lives of those we love.
